The project:  T4 HBS Replacement




The project consists of transforming part of the existing facility in Terminal 4 to receive upgraded baggage system including advanced enabling works, modifications and strengthening of existing structure in line with a complex construction phasing plan in a live environment.


We are looking for an experienced Design Manager who manages the integration and coordination of a new baggage handling system (BHS) with the supporting structural mezzanine, maintenance access, MoE and wayfinding. The DM will also ensure that the non-baggage works, namely the mechanical and electrical infrastructure and IT management systems are coordinated within the Revit model.


You will be responsible for the pre-construction design management and your role will include\: 



  • Review tender documentation and identify project risks

  • Assisting the design team through the scheme / production design stage and the delivery  team through into implementation and handover.

  • Demonstrate design management procedures, review programmes and set design deliverables.

  • Attend/chair design coordination team meetings as necessary during contract, maintaining minutes, and ensuring the Design Risk Register is maintained by the P.D.

  • Oversee identification of constraints via a clash detection exercise and manage the resolution through design solution or identification of concession.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and client standards. Facilitate the process raising and agreeing concessions with stakeholders for derogations from ERs.

  • Monitor and report on design progress, statutory approvals (Building Control and Baggage Operations Authority), outstanding information required, subcontractor design, environmental/CDM issues.

  • Develop and agree design input/output responsibilities between consultants and subcontractors with design responsibilities.

  • Monitor progress and status of RFI's and document control.

You’ll need to have: 






  • Experience on baggage/non baggage integration not specifically baggage design. 






You’ll ideally also have 






  • Membership (or working towards) of RIBA,MICE,CIBSE,CIOB, RICS,CIAT or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.  




  • Experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the automation sector. 










  • Construction and consultancy expertise.  




  • Knowledge of Building Safety legislation, Building standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and Health & Safety legislation. 




  • Experience of working in large, diverse teams.  




  • Experience of developing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
