We are seeking a talented Technical Artist to join our Los Angeles Team!
We’ve got the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry across a variety of projects delivering fun experiences with engaging challenges that make a positive impact, but we need your help to make them truly amazing.
As a Technical Artist, you will be responsible for supporting our Unreal and Unity development teams with a focus on supporting environment and effects artists with shader development, content creation, and runtime performance. Your role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including game designers, developers, and art directors, to bring digital worlds to life in real-time.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise, advice, and solutions to environment, character, and UI artists.
- Collaborate across departments and with management to devise comprehensive solutions for quality enhancement and iteration efficiency.
- Research and suggest appropriate tools and processes for projects.
- Independently extract well-defined requirements from creative and artistic briefs.
- Set performance and memory objectives and establish testing methods.
- Understand quality / performance trade-offs and develop solutions that maximize both.
- Manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- Adhere and contribute to technical art best practices, processes, pipelines, and tools.
- Conduct runtime performance reviews as needed and provide results and recommendations to individual contributors, leads, and management.
- Attending daily standups, breaking down assigned tasks and providing estimates during sprint planning or other planning exercises
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation as needed.
Requirements
- Expert in one or more industry standard DCC tools (Maya, Max, Blender, Substance, Photoshop, etc) for creating 2D and 3D assets.
- Expert at optimizing real time mobile, AR, and VR projects for performance.
- Proficient working with Unreal and/or Unity including creating and modifying Unreal blueprints, shaders, custom Unity components, etc.
- Proficient with using in-engine performance tools to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Proficient working with version control for all work (Perforce, or git).
- Proficient with color workflows used in realtime development.
- Experience writing and editing clear technical documentation.
- Capable of planning, designing and implementing solutions to a broad range of technical art problems.
- Able to communicate technical issues to non-technical team members.
- A passion and willingness to explore new skills and techniques for themselves and any assigned mentees.
Nice to Haves
- Capable of creating custom tools in scripts to automate fundamental tasks within one or more DCC packages.
- Experience creating custom content and environments in UEFN.
- Proficiency with lighting environments in Unreal and/or Unity in a variety of art styles.
- Avid Fortnite player.
$60,000 - $130,000 a year
Salaries offered are based on candidate experience, internal equity, and the level at which they are hired.
