Reporting To: Project Lead

Construction South is part of the UK Construction business and includes the Wales and West, and the South East . Projects on average range between £5 - £50 million and are primarily based in the Public Sector with some projects in the Private Sector. Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health and Commercial offices.

Role summary

The Senior Design Manager will lead the design from Stage 4/5 through to completion for a major MoJ project on the Isle of Sheppey including managing a small design team. Ideally you you will have experience working on MoJ / Public sector projects , although not essential and you will have experience leading / managing a team.

The role will be hybrid based out of our head office in London with travel to the project site.

Key accountabilities

  • Review the design resource and plan for workload, managing the team workload.
  • Liaise with internal/ external resource as appropriate.
  • Develop the design function to consistently improve and be better than any competition. To initiate innovation & best practice within ISG at every opportunity.
  • To develop a relationship with the client and project management team.
  • Work in collaboration with the project team and client, client’s advisors and appointed consultants.
  • Manage the design relationship between the Company, customer, design consultants, designing sub-contractors and statutory bodies acting as the point of contact on all design matters.
  • To develop the design programme and design information flow and ensure that these are incorporated into the overall project programme. Create RFIs for information.
  • To review project design inputs, processes and outputs on a regular basis ensuring compliance with contract requirements and that any necessary corrective actions are undertaken as required. Ensure Due Diligence is correctly carried out.
  • To research for current trends, materials, design ideas, to be able to offer alternative solutions and challenge where appropriate.
  • To manage design change controls, ensuring that changes are recorded and communicated to the relevant team members and organisations.
  • Ensure our HSQE standards, operating processes, company policies and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to, at all times.
  • Ensure compliance by the Company and all design consultants and designing sub-contractors with the CDM regulations.
  • Design and record the scope of duties of each design consultant and designing sub-contractor, ensuring that these are included in the relevant appointment and sub-contract documents.
  • Review with client where improvements can be learned, always strive to do better.

Skills & experience

  • Ability to work in Autocad for space planning/ detailing.
  • Previous retail /office project design experience essential, as is liaising with clients.
  • Self-motivated, dynamic thinker.
  • Excellent working knowledge of both 2D and 3D design. Experience in production of client design presentations.
  • Demonstrate competency as a design lead.

Qualifications

  • BA Hons Interior Design or BA Hons Architecture or equivalent design qualification
